CHANGE OF LOCATION OF MAKRIS STRING ORCHESTRA CONCERT

We inform you that the venue of tonight's concert (MAKRIS String Orchestra – ‘Od klasike do Holivuda’, 21 September at 8.30 p.m.), which was supposed to be in Captain Miša's Mansion, has been changed.

 

The new location is ETHNOGRAPHIC MUSEUM, Studentski trg 13.

 

On 21 September, the Makris International String Orchestra will perform with the repertoire ‘Od klasike do Holivuda’ (from classical music to Hollywood) at the Ethnographic Museum, organized by the Belgrade Festivals Centre (CEBEF), as part of the Atrium Sessions. Conductor is Predrag Gosta, and the soloists are Tamara Rađenović (soprano) and Nikola Mijajlović (trumpet). This attractive programme will include works by famous composers, including: Albinoni, Schubert, Mascagni, Piazzolla, Bach, as well as famous tracks from the films: ‘Scent of a Woman’, ‘The Mission’, ‘A Fistful of Dollars’, ‘Schindler's List’ and many others, with the vocal hits ‘O mio babbino caro’, ‘Ave Maria’, ‘Il bacio’, ‘O sole mio’...

MAKRIS ORCHESTRA gave its first concert in Belgrade on 31 January 2015, and since then it has been regularly performing in Belgrade, Novi Sad and other cities. It gathers primarily young talented musicians, and bears the name of the American composer of Greek origin Andreas Makris (1930–2005). The orchestra is supported by the Makris Foundation from the USA, which works to preserve Makris' musical legacy and helps the development of musical talents in the world. The music magazine ‘Muzika klasika’ presented this orchestra the ‘Orchestra of the Year’ award for 2015. The artistic director and conductor of the orchestra is Predrag Gosta. Among the soloists who have performed with the Makris Orchestra so far are renowned soloists such as Nataša Veljković, Marija Jelić, Marc Coppey, Evelyne Berezovsky, Mika Pavlović and others. In addition to its concert season, from 2019, the Orchestra started organizing an international competition for conductors. Soprano TAMARA RAĐENOVIĆ amazed opera legend Madame Montserrat Caballé with her voice when she was only 19 years old. The famous diva predicted her a great career as a lyric soprano and gave her the opportunity to sing at her gala concerts in Spain. She worked with the young artist until the end of her life and conveyed to her many emotions and love for this wonderful profession. Tamara Rađenović completed her studies at the prestigious Royal College of Music in London, where she was awarded a full scholarship. She presented herself to the Belgrade audience with David Bižić and Đorđe Nešić, and with the Makris Orchestra she was a soloist at gala concerts in Belgrade and Novi Sad. So far, she has performed in 13 countries around the world, among others in Spain, Italy, Austria, Germany, Great Britain and the USA, where she sang in New York's Carnegie Hall in 2018 and 2019. She made her opera debut in Italy as part of the Mediterranean Opera Festival in the opera ‘La Bohème’ in the role of Mimi, conducted by Leonardo Catalanotto. She also performed at the Britten Theatre in London in the roles of Anna (The Merry Wives of Windsor), Helena (A Midsummer Night's Dream), Romilda (Serse) and the Countess (The Marriage of Figaro). Trumpeter NIKOLA MIJAJLOVIĆ was born in Ćuprija. He graduated from the Academy of Music in Belgrade, and trained with eminent pedagogues such as Alison Balsom, Gábor Boldoczki, Stanko Arnold, Eric Obie, Tibor Kerekeš, Paul Archibald, Eric Vloeimans, Francisco ‘Pacho’ Flores, Luis González Martí and others. He performed as a soloist with the Art Ensemble of the Ministry of Defence ‘Stanislav Binički’, the Orchestra of the School for Musical Talents from Ćuprija, the Belgrade Chamber Orchestra ‘Orfej’, the Makris Symphony Orchestra and the RTS Symphony Orchestra, as well as the New Trinity Baroque early music ensemble, on the baroque trumpet. He was a participant in renowned music festivals such as Mokranjčev dani, Belgrade Brass Festival, BEMUS, NOMUS, BUNT, Kotor Art Festival, Guitar Art Festival and others. He collaborated with renowned conductors and soloists such as Ali Rahbari, Marcello Rota, Alexander Chernushenko, Sting, Andrea Bocelli, Plácido Domingo, Pepe Romero, Paco Flores and others. He works as a trumpet professor at the ‘Dr. Vojislav Vučković’ Music School in Belgrade, and is the artistic director of the Belgrade Brass Sextet. He is the recipient of significant awards and recognitions.     

 

The conductor and artistic director of the Orchestra PREDRAG GOSTA studied solo singing, harpsichord and conducting at the most prestigious music conservatories in Great Britain and the USA. He trained in Russia and Europe, and is currently a doctoral student at the University of Oxford. He is the winner of numerous awards and recognitions, including the annual UMUS award for the best concert in 2017 (opera ‘L'Orfeo’ by Claudio Monteverdi). He performed in the USA, Russia, Europe and Mexico, and conducted ensembles such as the London Symphony Orchestra, the ‘Glinka’ Orchestra in Petrograd, the Russian State Orchestra in Moscow, the National Philharmonic in Washington and the Belgrade Philharmonic. At the same time, he conducted in opera houses in Switzerland, Germany, Bulgaria, and in the National Theatre and Madlenianum in Belgrade. In addition to the Makris Symphony Orchestra, he is the artistic director of the New Belgrade Opera, the Belgrade Baroque Academy, the Early Music Festival, and the New Trinity Baroque early music ensemble.
