The Palestinian folklore group Al-Istiqlal was founded in 2011. It has 120 members and performs popular Palestinian art, preserving the civilizational role of folklore as a means of communication between world cultures. It participates in various festivals and holds lectures on literature, art and cultural heritage.
The folk dance dabke, which the dance group performs on stage, is often accompanied by folk songs. Dances such as Al-Dal'ona, Al-Zareef, Al-Jafra, Al-Karaadiyya, Al-Taiyyara and Al-Dahiyya are usually performed at weddings, and the dance group that performs them should consist of at least 10 dancers, a flutist and a drummer.
Al-Istiklal has participated in many folklore festivals in Palestine, and has held many concerts around the world: in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, Sweden, the Netherlands, Hungary, USA, Russia, Turkey, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Algeria, Qatar, Morocco, Oman, South Africa, Jordan, Iraq, Venezuela.
