Opening of CELLO FEST with MAISKY TRIO on 7 November in Kolarac Endowment
‘Two Decades of Glorious Adventures’
The new edition of Cello Fest will be held from 7 to 14 November 2023, organized by the Belgrade Festivals Centre – CEBEF under the slogan ‘Two Decades of Glorious Adventures’.
This year's Cello Fest will last for eight days, during which the audience will be offered performances by the world-famous cellists, Mischa Maisky and László Fenyő, followed by a concert by the St George Strings with soloists Robert Lakatoš and Dragan Đorđević, with the premiere performance of Mozart's Sinfonia concertante for violin and cello.
Cello Fest will be officially opened on Tuesday 7 November, when the MAISKY TRIO, led by the famous cellist Mischa Maisky, who enjoys performing in Belgrade, will hold a concert at the Kolarac Endowment at 8 p.m. Sascha Maisky (violin) and Lili Maisky (piano) will perform together with him. The programme includes works by Schumann, Brahms, Rachmaninoff and Shostakovich. Mischa Maisky, a world-class artist, is regarded in the music world as a virtuoso of strong temperament who always plays from the heart, with an unsurpassed gift to fully express his feelings in each of his performances. He is the only cellist in the world who studied with two greats – Mstislav Rostropovich and Gregor Piatigorsky. Tickets for the Maisky Trio concert are on sale at Ticket Vision sales points and online via the tickets.rs website.
On Friday 10 November, 2023, in the Atrium of the National Museum, with free admission, a performance called Viva Cello will be held – a concert by young cellists and cello students’ ensembles.
Cellist László Fenyő and pianist Natalija Mladenović will perform on Sunday 12 November, in the Belgrade Philharmonic Hall at 8 p.m., and their repertoire will include works by Bach, Beethoven, Schumann and Brahms.
St George Strings will hold a concert on Monday 13 November, in the Belgrade Philharmonic Hall at 8 p.m. The conductor is Srboljub Dinić, and the soloists are Robert Lakatoš (violin) and Dragan Đorđević (cello). The programme includes the following works: Mozart – The Sinfonia concertante in E-flat Major, K. 364; A. Schoenberg – Transfigured Night (Verklärte Nacht), Op. 4.
On 14 November, Cello Fest closes with a concert in the Central Military Club Ceremonial Hall at 8 p.m., when the Stanislav Binički Art Ensemble of the Ministry of Defense will perform, under the direction of conductor Rade Pejčić, and cellists: Vuk Mladenić, Kristina Antić, Vukašin Nikolić, Željko Tamburić, Relja Mitrović, Duša Jovanović and Petra Miljković. The programme of this concert will include works by Dvořák and Tchaikovsky. Admission is free.
Dragan Đorđević Suzuki, cellist, long-time member of the artistic team of the festival, invited the audience to join the celebration of two decades of musical passion, art and virtuosity at this year's Cello Fest.
‘Cello Fest, one of the most prestigious musical events in Serbia and the region, is celebrating its great jubilee – 20 years of existence. This jubilee brings us Cello Fest 2023 under the slogan ‘Two Decades of Glorious Adventures’, promising the audience unforgettable concerts. The event, dedicated to the cello, gathers great musicians, orchestras, professors, students, pupils and music lovers from the entire region. During its two decades of existence, Cello Fest has become a synonym for high-quality performances, immense passion and love for this wonderful instrument,’ he said.
‘Cello Fest brings us conductors Srboljub Dinić and Rade Pejčić, pianist Natalija Mladenović, as well as cellists Attila Pásztor and Danijela Milutinović. And there are our friends from Thomastik-Infeld. Special attention of this year's jubilee Cello Fest is given to young and talented cellists, who will get the opportunity to perform as soloists with the symphony orchestra, but also at the unmissable concert of the youngest cellists and the cello students’ ensembles of the Faculty of Music in Belgrade,’ added Đorđević.
In his opinion, the announced concerts promise to make Cello Fest 2023 an unforgettable and inspiring event for all generations of music and cello lovers, reminding us of the importance of classical music, of youth, and of how music can connect us.
