Nick Murphy, an Australian artist, is a fan of the legendary jazz trumpeter Chet Baker. Under pseudonym Chet Faker, Murphy became a global underground hit in the period 2012-2015, when he launched a revolutionary groove-based electronic sound with his soulful vocals. He is said to foster a chill out sound for all generations. Chet won Breakthrough Artist of the Year in 2012, and his single ‘Thinking in Textures’ won Best Independent Single/EP at the Australian Independent Records Awards. This work won Best Independent Release at the 2013 Rolling Stone Australia Awards. Having dropped the name Chet Faker in September 2016, Murphy began performing and releasing material under his birth name, only to revive the moniker for the release of his new single ‘Low’ four years later in October 2020. In 2021, he released the album ‘Hotel Surrender’.
