Crvena jabuka at Kombank Hall: Songs Coming from the Soul in Acoustic Version
Crvena jabuka (red apple), a legendary band consisting of: Dražen Žerić – Žera, Adrian Borić,
Igor Matković – Iggy, Krešimir Kaštelan – Krešo and Tomislav Škrak – Tomy, will perform an
‘Unplugged’ concert on 20 December in Belgrade at the Kombank Hall as part of the Belgrade
Festivals Centre regular season.
In the eighties, when the band was formed (it was named after the apple that one of the first band members brought to the rehearsal), probably no one could have dreamed that decades later, many young people would play their first guitar chords right out of the band’s songs. Even more amazing would be the fact that in 2018 the twentieth Crvena jabuka album – ‘Nocturno’ would be released. This group, therefore, has no intention of slowing down or resting on its laurels – ‘The Apple’ is as fresh as ever, and even redder.
Although the band originally belonged to the New Primitives genre, as the frontman Žera says, genre is not important – what is important is that music comes from the soul. And all the Crvena jabuka songs are just that – songs coming from the soul. From the first album in 1986 (‘Bježi, kišo, s prozora’, ‘Dirlija’, ‘Nek te on ljubi’…) to the latest ‘Nocturno’, they recorded more than 200 songs, and for the record ‘Sanjati’ from 1990, they were awarded the international Ampex Golden Reel Award. That is why it is not surprising that more than 30 songs can often be heard at their concerts.
Through all these years and all these songs, Crvena jabuka has not lost its audience – it has only gained new audiences, and that is why now all generations can be seen at their performances. We can expect a spontaneous and moving performance this time as well, in which the audience participates as much as the band, because, as Žera says, ‘there are no rules in music: it is not mathematics, it is emotion’.
