GARDEN SESSIONS – Renowned Performers in ‘Jevremovac’ Botanical Garden

This year, the second series of concerts of renowned musicians from Serbia and Europe will be held, called ‘Garden Sessions’, in the ‘Jevremovac’ Botanical Garden, one of the favourite events among Belgraders. On Saturday, 18 June 2022, the popular Serbian singer Aleksandra Radović will present her ‘Acoustic Concert’ programme, while the next day, Sunday, 19 June, the concert will be held by the famous international ensemble Barcelona Gipsy balKan Orchestra. The organizer of this event is the Belgrade Festivals Centre (CEBEF), as well as of a concert by Rade Šerbedžija and Zapadni kolodvor called ‘Don't Turn Around, Son’, scheduled at the same place for Friday, 17 June. The entrance to the concert space is from Vojvode Dobrnjca Street.


Tickets for all three concerts can be purchased on the website, at Ticket Vision points of sale, as well as at the box office of the ‘Jevremovac’ Botanical Garden. 


Aleksandra Radović, one of the most famous pop singers in Serbia, graduated from the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad. She is a singer-songwriter, composes and writes lyrics, plays the piano, and has had her own singing school since 2006. She is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards. Her album ‘Žar ptica’ was the best-selling in Serbia and the region for three months and was named the best pop album in the countries on the territory of former Yugoslavia in 2010. Aleksandra was a member of the jury of several music competitions. Due to her gorgeous vocals, she is considered one of the best singers in the region. Her songs such as ‘Beskrajno’, ‘Bivši dragi’, ‘Nisi moj’, ‘Čuvaj moje srce’, ‘Ne, hvala’ have millions of views on YouTube.  Barcelona Gipsy balKan Orchestra is a world-renowned band of the world music scene that performs songs in many languages: Spanish, Russian, Romani, Italian, Serbian and others. Its current members are: Margherita Abita (vocals, Italy), Daniel Carbonell (clarinet, Catalonia – Spain), Oleksandr Sora (violin, Ukraine), Pere Nolasc (violin, Catalonia – Spain), Fernando Salinas (accordion, Basque Country – Spain), Julien Chanal (guitar, France), Stelios Togias (percussion, Greece) and Ivan Kovačević (double bass, Serbia). Ivan was born in Belgrade and has lived in Barcelona for almost two decades.At the end of 2020, the Barcelona-based band released the album ‘Nova era’ with the new singer Margherita Abita, originally from Sicily, with whom they recorded a cover of a Balkan music gem ‘Marijo, deli bela Kumrijo’ and the famous song by Silvana Armenulić ‘Ciganine sviraj, sviraj.’ This ensemble also held concerts in Barcelona and Belgrade in 2017, where Bora Dugić was a guest.


Celebrating 10 years of existence, the Barcelona Gipsy balKan Orchestra presents original material for the first time, both instrumental and vocal. The traditional music of the Balkan countries is the main inspiration for the compositions of this band from the Catalan capital.
